A brief history of Cafe Continental<\/span><\/h2>\n

Caf\u00e9 Continental originates from the 1800\u2019s when the Toma family immigrated from Italy to Scotland. The Caf\u00e9 started trading in Port Glasgow then Greenock before opening in 1899 at it\u2019s current location in Gourock.<\/h3>\n

Originally called the Star Hotel, then the Continental Ice Bar, then Continental Caf\u00e9 it finally changed its name to the current Caf\u00e9 Continental in the 1980\u2019s.<\/h3>\n

The Caf\u00e9 has undergone many changes over the years. During the Second World War it was requisitioned by the Government to house Dutch Navy personnel and wounded British soldiers. The owner at that time, however, having spent time in Italy prior to the war, was interned\u00a0 <\/span>on the Isle of Man for the duration of it.<\/h3>\n

In 1985 the Caf\u00e9 was significantly redesigned to become a full bar \/ restaurant and a final name change to Caf\u00e9 Continental.<\/h3>\n

Gourock lies about 25 miles West of Glasgow along the M8. There is an abundance of parking behind the Caf\u00e9.<\/h3>\n
